Retired Grindrod Shipping boss Martyn Wade switches teams

Days after a takeover bid for his former company, Grindrod Shipping, the industry veteran with 44 years of international shipping experience under his belt, Martyn Wade, has been announced as a new member of the Board of Directors at Danish ship owner, Lauritzen Bulkers.

Joining the Board seems a small feat for Mr. Wade. He is also a United Kingdom Freight Demurrage and Defense Association board member. And can do all this after working in the whimsical cities of London, Johannesburg, New York, and Singapore.

Kristian Mørch, Wade’s fellow chairman of Lauritzen Bulkers, commented on his joining the Board, saying, We are pleased to have Martyn on the Board of Lauritzen Bulkers. He brings vast industry experience and knowledge, which I am sure will benefit us in the company’s continuous development.”

Wade worked with Clipper Bulk, Simpson Spence and Young, Van Ommeren, Simpson Spence and Young, and HSBC Shipping Services before joining Grindrod. Wade worked as CEO of Grindrod from 2017 until he announced he was retiring in April of this year.

Shortly after Wade’s resignation, Grindrod received a non-binding takeover offer of $26 per share in the Nasdaq from Taylor Maritime Investments, which Grindrod accepted.
