Sony launched a PlayStation Studios Mobile sector on Monday to expand the company’s mobile presence. A considerable portion of Playstation Studios’ mobile division will dissolve to Savage Game Studios, which Sony acquired on Monday.
The new mobile division, headlined by the acquisition of Savage Game Studios, shows that Sony and PlayStation are taking steps to become significant players in the mobile gaming world.
Sony joins familiar rivals Microsoft and Nintendo in the mobile gaming world. Sony will also be going up against foreign rivals like Tencent and NetEase, two of the biggest mobile gaming companies in the world.
While Savage Game Studios was only founded in 2020, they are in the works of publishing a AAA mobile live service action game, which both companies can not wait to share with the public.
Video game companies’ numbers surged during the height of the pandemic. However, as normalcy approached, Sony’s gaming department faced a tough second quarter when it noticed a significant increase of people spending much more time outdoors.
Sony has also been struggling with supply issues for their PlayStation 5 console and has recently announced a price increase.
