Zhao Lijian and China did not take these accusations lightly. Lijan, a spokesman at the Chinese foreign ministry, bashed the allegations calling them a “smear campaign.” Lijian added that this wasn’t the first time the head of NASA had “spoken irresponsibly about China.”
