Allyson Felix: Olympic great announced to 10th World Athletics Championships appearance

Before a legend reaches the penultimate swan song, she chases one final medal won in her last dance with the World Championships.

Despite failing to qualify for the 400m event, multi-time world medalist Allyson Felix was named to the United States’ 4X400m mixed relay pool, in what would potentially be her last appearance at the World Athletics Championships.

It is a bittersweet feeling, as she is to retire at the end of the year.

The 36-year-old last participated in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, getting bronze in the 400 as well as gold in the 4X400m.

She last competed in the World Championships in Doha (2019), winning gold.

She is regarded as the most decorated female track star in history, and has 14 gold medals in her career, winning 19 in total over her 17-year Olympic career.

The championship series begins next week, July 15th, and will continue to the 24th in Eugene, Oregon.
