The year for the young British star Emma Raducanu has been a turbulent one, to say the least. Today’s loss was another episode of the story.
Raducanu retired mid-match after an apparent injury to the left side of her torso. The 19-year-old took a three-minute injury timeout after the third game, in which at the time she led 2-1.
Despite medical treatment and painkiller usage, the reported injury had hampered the star in the tourney, ending her run in kind.
Raducanu spoke candidly about the injury, stating:
“I think I pulled something. I’m not really sure exactly what happened, I don’t know what I could have done about it. I have to get a scan, probably, I’ll get it checked out and we’ll see from there. It’s on the side of my body, it feels maybe around my ribs.”
Assuring media members that it is not tied to her back injury earlier this year, the British star ended her run in an unfortunate fashion, losing at the very place her Tennis career first began.
Raducanu made headlines earlier in the year for the aforementioned back injury, as well as infamously cutting ties with Torben Beltz as her coach, citing a need for a more diverse training approach.
The #2 ranked female tennis star first made waves last year, winning the US Open, besting Canadian star Leylah Fernandez.
