There’s an unsettling feeling when athletes are prompted to answer questions regarding social issues. Unfortunately, as these issues have heightened throughout the world, those very questions are brought up to gage athletes, unconsciously ending in problems for the athletes and the fans that support them.
Perhaps it is the reason why Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood were reluctant to answer questions on whether or not they’d play a potential tournament hosted by Russian President Vladamir Putin.
Asked ahead of the LIV Golf tournament, Ian Poulter chimed in, stating:
“That’s speculation, I’m not going to comment on speculation.”
The reporter shifted the question to Westwood, inquiring if he’d play in Apartheid South Africa, to which he insisted they cannot answer upon hypotheticals.
The two stars are each member of a stacked field including Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson involved in the tourney.
The schedule for the LIV Golf Invitational Series is from Thursday, June 9th, through to October 30th.
