Last night, it was approved by the England and Wales Cricket Board that Ben Stokes will become the new captain of the English cricket team.
The All-rounder will succeed Joe Root, who steps down from his role after 5 years and a record 64 Tests with the team.
Stokes has scored 5,061 runs with 174 wickets in 79 Tests with the team.
His appointment was recommended by Rob Key, the new managing director of men’s cricket.
When commenting on the decision, Key stated: “I had no hesitation in offering the role of Test captain to Ben,” matching the “mentality and approach” they want to emulate moving forward.
Stokes has had multiple spells as the vice-captain since 2017, notably being captain for the 2020 West Indies defeat.
The Cricket star has much to make up for, as the team is currently last in the Test Championship, winning one of their last 17 Tests, as well as going winless in five series for the first time in history.
