Intermodal passenger terminals facilitate connectivity for travelers and enhance the livability of communities by offering multiple transportation options to residents. In April 2022, CMA CGM unveiled two new special services with intermodal solutions that connect Southeast Brazil, specifically Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, to Asia and Europe, China being the main attraction. It was announced that a new service could be found at the port of Santos, Brazil, and the Rail Rio de Janeiro ramp.
CMA CGM said in a statement, “To meet the needs of our customers, CMA CGM will offer three weekly services: Seas, Seas2, and Safran services to connect Asia and Europe to/from Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais with rail ramp delivery in 4 days and seven days, respectively. Furthermore, in the case of last-mile service requests, the intermodal transit time drops to one day,”
The shipping company alleges that transit time to Rio de Janeiro is 37 days from Shanghai, 40 from Qingdao, 19 from Antwerp, and 21 from Hamburg. And from Mina Gerais, the connection takes 38 days to Shanghai, 41 to Qingdao, 30 to Antwerp, and 28 to Hamburg.
