Second sailing aboard Norwegian Escape canceled as repairs continue

Another sailing aboard the Norwegian Escape has been canceled as it continues to be repaired after it went aground in the Dominican Republic last week.

Norwegian Cruise Line had to cancel the 7-night sailing out of Port Canaveral because the repairs to the ship are taking “longer than expected.”

The cruise line said it expects the ship’s repairs to be completed in time for it to make its sailing on April 2.

The Norwegian Escape was leaving Puerto Plata on March 14 when strong winds pushed it on to a sandbar. The following morning, the ship broke free when the tide came in, and it was taken back to the port to be examined.

Passengers were given a full refund and the cruise line flew them back to the United States.

The following sailing was then canceled in order to allow the ship to undergo repairs. Then on March 22, the cruise line sent a letter to passengers who were supposed to be on the March 26 sailing that their trip was also canceled.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, as we understand now more than ever the desire to travel and reconnect with the places and people, we’ve missed most,” the letter said.

Passengers were given the option for a full refund and future cruise credit, or choose to sail on a different Norwegian ship sailing this weekend and receive a future cruise credit as well.
