As the Winter Olympics ensues, storylines continue to take shape.
Arguably the biggest story coming out of Beijing is ‘The Snow Princess’.
The Snow Princess reigns
China’s Eileen Gu completed a 1620 jump en route to her first gold medal, the youngest in the country’s history.
At 18-years-old, the California native scored 94.50 in her third jump to best France’s Tess Ledeux.
When asked about her gravity-defying stunt, she remained unraveled, stating she “felt pretty confident” citing her time learning piano as a reason to be eased at that moment.
In attendance was China native, Peng Shuai, the tennis star who’s publicly embroiled in the sexual assault controversy linked to ex-Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli.
Chen breaks record with Quad jumps
Elsewhere in the Winter Games, American triple world champ Nathan Chen had a world record-scoring routine to head men’s figure skating.
He nailed two, effortless-appearing quad jumps, notching a season-high, international best score of 113.97.
The previous world record holder and reigning 2-time champion, Yuzuru Hanyu finished eighth after struggling to complete a quad jump.
Geisenberger gets the 3-peat
Germany’s Natalie Geisenberger won her 3rd consecutive Olympic luge title. She now stands as the first person to accomplish the feat.
Tatyana Ivanova secured a bronze medal in the contest, the first medal in the women’s luge for Russia in over 40 years.
