Winter Olympics 2022: Controversy on Ice

The Winter Olympics have seemed to take an awkward turn of events today. Amid reports of positive tests of banned substances, the committee will hold off on the ceremony until details become confirmed.

A notable star involved in the controversy is Russia’s Kamila Valieva. Off the heels of her groundbreaking quadruple jump, the 15-year-old Valieva won gold for her country this past weekend.

It was reported yesterday that Valieva had returned a positive test, as Russian newspapers RBC and Kommersant named the drug Trimetazidine, which is typically used to treat chest pain.

When asked about the matter, Chair of the US Olympic and Paralympic committee, Susanne Lyons stated: “the whole credibility of the Olympic Movement and the Paralympic Movement stands teetering on the edge of us saying that we really believe and live the values that we say we stand for,”

The information continues to be up for discussion as games go on.
