Senegal wins Cup; Cameroon 3rd in AFCON 21′

The long-awaited African Cup of Nations is in the books, as after a 6-month postponement, the tourney came to fruition.

And based on how it all ended, it was worth the wait.

Longtime underdog Senegal bests Egypt in a penalty shootout to win yesterday’s finale. The team won after a scoreless full-time, as they won 4-2 in penalties.

Senegal’s run was a long road to success, as the path began with great struggle.

The country had previously lost two Nations Cup finals, including 2019’s 1-0 loss to Algeria.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane scored the winning penalty in the shootout against Egypt, cementing the country’s 1st AFCON crown. When asked about the landmark win, Mane, who’s won titles in different leagues stated that the win marked “the best day” of his life, winning “the best trophy” of his life.

The hometown team Cameroon notched 3rd place, besting Burkina Faso in penalty shootouts to take home the honor.
