It isn’t over till the fat lady sings. And with a sure thing like Nick Saban in a National Championship Game, it’s hard to believe she’d ever grace the stage.
Last night her first hymn rang through Lucas Oil Stadium, as the Georgia Bulldogs lived up to the hype, besting Alabama 33-18 in the Monday night affair.
Stetson Bennet went 17-26 for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Bryce Young, the heavily coveted draft prospect, notched over 360 yards for 35-57, 2 touchdowns, and one interception.
Alabama, the SEC king, lost in the Championship game, missing out n an illustrious back-to-back CFB title win. Despite that, the Crimson Tide has been a fixture in the College Football finale, entering the dance 6 of the last 8 seasons, winning 3 titles in that span.
They have also won 6 titles under Nick Saban, making them a perennial title favorite, and hotbed for NFL prospects over the past decade.
In the postgame interview, Saban addressed the media alongside his star quarterback and linebacker, Will Anderson Jr, stating on their behalf: “These two guys that are sitting up here, they’re not defined by one game”; speaking highly of his team that up to that point had won all but one game in the season.
As for the victors, the Bulldogs won their first National Championship crown in over 40 years. Offensive MVP Stetson Bennett was highlighted with a cigar in tow, capping off a Senior year. The transfer was the lead in his own great story of redemption. He, alongside his team which, in comparison to their adversary, were not odds-on favorites for the win.
