WBO Champ pegged to beat Tyson Fury

Meet Oleksandr Usyk. Ukrainian striker. Undefeated at 19 wins and 13 knockouts. Current WBA (Super), WBO, and IBF champion. And according to Malik Scott, the one to take down “The Gypsy King”.

Scott, coach of Deontay Wilder, told ESNews the boxer could take down the undefeated Tyson Fury pending his rematch with former multi-champ, Anthony Joshua.

In the interview, Scott mentioned that the tactical approach that Fury utilized in his first fight versus his Wilder has been lost on the UK native. Fury, who in his last match versus Scott’s trainee saw the British boxer take more chances, going after Wilder and seeking the illustrious knockout that had alluded him in their 1st two bouts.

“The heavier Tyson Fury that’s coming forwards, that wants to take chances and put his weight on people. I think that is a perfect system for Usyk to operate off of,” Scott added. “Because his feet are fast, he turns on angles, he’s a good counter-puncher and his punches are so accurate they come with a bit more sting than they appear.”

The coach also mentioned “stylistically”, Wilder’s punching power may counteract the fast-twitches of Usyk.

Despite the chatter, Wilder’s name in ways had been redeemed in the interview.
For now, the Usyk/Joshua rematch is set to take place in the Spring of 2022.
