Walter Smith: ‘A life in Football’ premieres tonight

Tonight is the premiere of Football great, Walter Smith’s documentary: ‘Walter: A Life in Football’. Soccer fans worldwide will have a look at the life of Smith, through the lens of his peers from his playing career into his illustrious coaching career. One, in particular, still mourning the passing of Smith just a short 2 months ago.

In the documentary, Sir Alex Ferguson spoke on Walter Smith, recounting the day a friend and fellow coach passed away: “After he died I was waking up in the middle of the night, every night for weeks, thinking about him,” says Ferguson.

Smith, after a solid run as a 14-year pro, made his mark in the coaching world; winning 13 major trophies in seven years in his 1st stint with Rangers F.C. He went on to manage at many clubs including Everton and Manchester United, before returning to his famed club before retirement in 2011.

He would remain a living legend up until this past October, where he passed away at age 73.

The commemorative piece will air tonight at 21:00 GMT on BBC One Scotland.
