NFL to honor John Madden

Week 17 of the NFL will honor the late-great John Madden. The coach, sportscaster, and for the younger generation, the face of the Madden franchise, the longest-standing video game title of any professional sport in North America.

Earlier today, in a memo acquired by multiple media outlets, Commissioner Roger Goodell told advocated for a proper tribute for who he called “a true giant” in the sport.

“To help honor his legacy, we ask that each home team in Week 17 observe a moment of silence in his memory just prior to the start of the game.”

Madden passed away on Tuesday at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy that spans nearly 7 decades; winning an AFL title a Super Bowl, and a Coach of the Year nod en route to an even more iconic career as a sportscaster.

Madden’s Hall of Fame career was cemented with his induction in 2006, but his presence is, and forever will be, etched in the lure of American Football.
